What a Heat Pump Does Mechanically
Your heat pump extracts latent heat from the outside air, even when it's cold, and transfers it into your heating system. This process is more efficient at lower temperatures. So, instead of water flowing through your radiators at 70°C or 80°C like a gas boiler, a heat pump typically operates with flow temperatures between 35°C and 55°C. For your radiators to effectively warm a room at these lower temperatures, they often need to be physically larger or have more fins to compensate for the reduced temperature difference.
