The codes we see most often
These are the ones that come up week to week on Baxi appliances around Wigan and Leigh, with what each one usually means in practice.
- E119: system pressure too low. Repressurise once and watch whether it drops again.
- E133: no flame established, which points at gas supply, ignition or condensate.
- E110: overheat lockout, normally caused by poor circulation rather than the boiler.
- E125: circulation fault detected, so pump, air or sludge.
- E160: fan fault, a component replacement rather than a reset.
Overheat codes and system cleanliness
E110 and E125 on Baxi appliances are usually system faults rather than boiler faults. Where a system has never been flushed and has no magnetic filter, debris collects in the heat exchanger and restricts flow, so the boiler heats a small volume of water very quickly and shuts down to protect itself. Cleaning the system and fitting a filter fixes it properly. Replacing the pump alone often does not.
What you can safely check yourself
There is a small set of checks any homeowner can make before calling out an engineer, and none of them involve the boiler itself.
- Pressure gauge reading against the marked band
- Whether other gas appliances in the house are working, which tells you about supply
- Whether the condensate pipe outside is frozen in cold weather
- Thermostat batteries, timer settings and whether anyone has changed them
Where the line is
Never remove the boiler casing, adjust gas controls or work on any gas component yourself. Those are Gas Safe engineer jobs by law. If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 and turn the gas off at the meter.

What is E119 on a Baxi boiler?+
Low system pressure. Repressurise to the band marked on the gauge. If it drops again within days, there is a leak that needs finding.
Does an E110 mean my boiler is finished?+
Usually not. It is an overheat protection lockout and most often caused by restricted circulation from sludge, a blocked filter or a failing pump.
Should I keep resetting a Baxi that locks out?+
No. One reset is fine, repeated resets just cycle the appliance through failed ignition attempts and can make diagnosis harder.
