Why flow temperature is the hidden setting
A condensing boiler only condenses when return water is cool enough. Dropping the flow temperature and letting the heating run longer at a lower temperature usually improves efficiency more than any app feature. Modulating controls do this automatically; we also set it manually at commissioning.
Zoning: worth it or not
Zoning pays off in larger homes with clearly different occupancy patterns — a home office used all day, bedrooms used at night. In a compact house with an open layout, good TRVs and a single well-placed thermostat usually perform just as well for less money.
