Judging the Urgency: Emergency vs. Concern
If you smell gas, hear a hissing noise near an appliance or meter, or have an active carbon monoxide alarm, this is an emergency. Do not delay. Call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. Turn off your gas at the meter if it's safe and easy to reach. Open all windows and doors, avoid electrical switches, and get everyone out of the property. For properties in areas like Atherton with tightly packed Victorian terraces, gas leaks can affect neighbours quickly. Once the gas network has made the area safe, we can then investigate your appliances.
