Initial Safe Checks Before Calling Us
Your safety is paramount. If you smell gas strongly, do not try to find the source yourself or book an engineer. The National Gas Emergency Service (0800 111 999) must be your first call. If it's safe to do so, turn off the gas at the meter, open all windows and doors, avoid operating any electrical switches or devices, and evacuate the property immediately. Once the emergency is under control, then we can address appliance-specific concerns.
- Identify any gas smell – distinguish from drains or damp.
- Check for visible yellow or orange flames on appliances.
- Look for soot marks or staining around boiler flues or fires.
- Verify carbon monoxide alarm battery status and expiry date.
- Note any recent building work that might affect flues or ventilation.
