Winter Diagnostics for High Pressure
In freezing conditions, a boiler struggling with high pressure is under increased strain. We start by checking the filling loop; if it's been left connected, even a slight leak can over-pressurise the system. We then test the expansion vessel's charge. A cold vessel, especially in an unheated garage, can give a more accurate reading of its health. Finally, we inspect the pressure relief valve (PRV). If it's passing, the valve seat might be damaged, a problem that often becomes more apparent with fluctuating system pressures during high demand. Should these initial checks not pinpoint the fault, we investigate the plate heat exchanger for internal leaks, which can allow mains water into the sealed system.
